Rally to the finish

My goal this season was to have at least one game where we come from behind to win. We usually play much stronger during the first 25 minutes, and I wanted the girls to prove that they can be a second half team. While we didn't win against Metro Lacrosse (11 - 16 final score), the girls played a DRAMATICALLY better second half.

At the end of the first half, we were losing 4 to 10. Rachel had scored three goals, Kiley one, and our entire team was looking winded and a little confused. We talked about strategy, indetified some girls to pay more attention to, and started the second half determined to improve.

7 goals later (compared to Metro's 6), the girls walked off the field with a very different feeling. Rachel scored 4 more goals, making it 7 total for the game! Danielle and Tori added another goal each, and Stephanie earned her first mention on our hot shot board!

Our defense (Amanda, Ashley, Kristen and Megan) worked hard to communicate and react to Metro's offense, and our midfield (Kiley, Rachel, Danielle, Stephanie, Katelyn) played a smart, fast paced game with very few breaks. Our offense (Tori, Kelly, Isabel) made some beautiful plays and were essential pieces of our 2nd half rally.

The MVP of this game was Katy who wasn't planning on playing. I called her on her way to school and she turned around, went home, packed in 10 minutes, and was ready to play that afternoon. We literally couldn't have done it without her, and I'm so grateful for her willingness to play (not to mention her 9 great saves)!

2 home games this week - Varsity vs. Waring on Tuesday (Collins, 3:45) and Chapel Hill on Friday (Iron Rail, 3:30). We hope to see you there!
