Playing Proud

I apologize for the delay. We've played three games since my last post, so it's been a little busy! The girls have worked their buts off to score a combined 21 goals, but, unfortunately, we've also added three losses to our season. We're not worried, though, because these girls played each game with pride and poise.

We traveled to Chapel Hill last Friday and fought our hardest to overcome a 3-7 halftime score. We ended at 8-9 thanks to incredible effort from our defense and perfect shots from Rachel S. (3!), Eliza W. (2), Krissy C. (2) and Kiley D. (1) While I wish we could play CHCH again to earn a well-deserved victory, I'm glad that game is over.

On Tuesday we played Gann under threatening skies. Lea M. stepped in goal with the Bruins' goalie Tuuka Rask as her inspiration. In front of her, Sarah S., Amanda D., Taylor S., Lucia A. and Kiley D. played consistent, aggressive and clean defense. Lilly N., Danielle S., Caroline M. and Eden B. pushed Gann's defense to mark their fast feet and strong passes, while Eliza W., Krissy C., Juliette L. and Kiley D. made 3, 4, 1 and 1 goals respectively. Despite our momentum, Gann's trainer unexpectedly ended the game with 2 minutes left. We were down by one goal (9-10) and had the ball right in front of Gann's goal. Needless to say, a little bit of lightening was not a welcome sight (most of us didn't even see the lightening that forced the trainer onto the field...). Our girls, as always, left the field respectfully and didn't argue with the decision. Our coaches would've LOVED to argue with the decision but followed the girls' lead & got on the bus.

Today's game was against a team we (not so jokingly) refer to as "made of magic": Montrose. Their center is always 7 feet tall, fast as lightening and never misses a shot. Never, that is, until Lea M. got in her way. Lea saved more than 14 shots (I think it was 19) and made sure our defense (Sarah S., Taylor S., Amanda D., Kristen L., Kiley D. and Lucia A.) kept their chins up. The midfield (Kristen L., Kiley D., Juliette L., Eliza W., and Krissy C.) ran and ran and ran and then ran some more. Danielle S., Lilly N., Caroline M., Eden B. kept the ball on offense as much as possible, and helped Eliza, Krissy and Eden score their hard-won goals (2, 1, and 1). We ended the first half at 2-12, the game at 4-18. Once again, the girls left the field proud of how they played and satisfied with their unrelenting effort.

We'll recover tomorrow & Friday as we head into a FOUR GAME week starting on Monday. We'd love to see you at our home games on Wednesday & Thursday.
