The girl's played a wonderful game yesterday - despite the heat, bright sunlight, and having 3 days with no practice! We played against Waring, a top ranked team in our league, on their home field. When we played Waring last season, we lost 19 - 1. This time we played a dramatically improved game but lost 12 - 7.
The first five minutes were a whirlwind on the field - unfortunately resulting in five Waring goals. We took a timeout, the girls settled down, and returned to the field to score 3 goals and keep Waring away from the net for 16 minutes! Katy Aldrich did a great job of staying focused and involved, and defense - led by Meredith Hofmaier - stayed aggressive no matter what the score was. On offense, the combination of Jenna Hunt at center, Sam Silverman at attack wing, and Eliza Woodworth and Eden Bellow at homes kept the ball moving and on our half of the field :) Mackenzie Amigo, Lilly Nevin, and Juliette Larzelere also made essential catches and passes, switched to defense when needed and got out of the way as necessary.
At halftime the score was 6 - 3 (Eliza Woodworth scored 2 and Krissy Churchill 1). Katy Aldirch returned to the field and many of our girls took some time to rest in the shade (where Missy Bernstein kept a watchful eye over everyone). Despite some personality conflicts with the referee, Krissy Churchill played her heart out. She scored three more goals and was involved in each transition of the ball. Jenna Hunt got our 7th and final goal in her traditional, full-out sprint to the goal way. Katelyn Ming, Kristen Larocque, Amanda Doyle and Taylor Smith busted their butts - and came off the field a little winded ;) Morgan Patrican and Sarah Streck rounded out this solid team effort.
We play Waring's JV team today, 3:45 at Waring. Our next game is Friday versus Chapel hill (game will be played at Iron Rail field #9). We'd love to see you there!!
