W-I-N 14-8 vs. Brimmer & May

The Girls Lacrosse team took home their second win of the season this past Thursday afternoon, beating Brimmer & May 14-8. Despite the ominous weather, the team started strong with a goal by Diane Churchill and assisted by Mackenzie Amigo, only one minute into the game. Brimmer and May showed strong competition from a few key players and answered the call. The Landmark scoring continued with three by Rachel Smith in the first half, as well as one by Amigo. Kelli O'Brian, playing in her first game of the season, rounded out the scoring of the first half by making a free position shot. In the second half of the game, Landmark took the intensity up a notch to drown out any chance of a Brimmer Rally. Stephanie Scanlon, playing defensive wing, brought the ball up through the attack retraining line and sunk her shot two minutes into the second half. Tori Clark, who had made a handful of solid shots on net through the game, added a notch to the scoreboard. Morgan Barlow, who faced tough defensive coverage, snuck by her opponents to score two, and Smith made three more goals to bring the score to 14-8. On defense, Ashley Holmes continued her excellent communication with her defensive mates to protect the goalies from seeing too much action. Other notable action on defense included Catherine Garrett moving at the speed of light to make sure her player was marked, and Jess Ferris fighting through a little bit of blood loss from a hand/stick collision. Maddy and Lydi both made quick saves in net against shots from Brimmer; they saw 8 and 9 shots on net, respectively. The girls will face Chapel Hill, away, this coming Friday.
