Waring, take 1

I think this was our best game against Waring to date. They've been #1 in our league (or, at lowest, #2) since I started coaching, but on Friday we got to within two goals of their lead. The final score (12 - 4, Waring) doesn't show how much of a team effort this game was, but I know the girls left the field feeling proud of how they played.

Rachel powered in all 4 of our goals. She scored once in the first half and then knocked in three more in the second. Katy started in goal and made 6 essential saves, and then Maddy stepped in for the second half, She bested her previous record of 18 saves in one game with 16 saves in one half (and earned a mention in the Salem News, see link in the sidebar).

Our starting line up didn't change much throughout the game and, as this was their third game in a row, that in and of itself is an achievement. Tori continued to play great offense, and Morgan and Isabel made solid contributions throughout the game. Morgan also did an awesome job at defensive wing, suprising no one more than herself. Meghan and Stephanie provided much need relief throughout the game and they both did a great job.

Kiley, Rachel, Danielle, Kelly and Mackenzie were our midfield and kept pace with even the fastest Waring player. Danielle deserves special mention as she felt awful but played wonderfully. On defense, Kristen, Ashley and Amanda continued to guide their teammates with consistent communication and smart plays.

We play Brimmer and May this Thursday (4:15) and would love to see you there!
