The Girl’s Varsity Lacrosse team
opened their season with a bang yesterday afternoon at Pingree, winning 11-4.
Within the first two minutes of play, Morgan Barlow opened fire on the Pingree
goalie and scored the first goal. Shortly after, Rachel Smith put in two goals,
and passed the torch off to Mackenzie Amigo who also decided that two goals in
a row are better than one. Smith’s third goal came straight from Ashley Holmes
on defense, and rounding out a solid opening half was Stephanie Scanlon with a
beautiful shot to the corner. During the second half of the game, our defensive
wall stayed strong with Katy Aldrich, Maxie Cataldo, and Meghan Doolan holding
off their opponents. For scoring, Smith scored another set of goals, one
unassisted and another by a pass from fellow attacker, Amigo. Tori Clark scored
a goal assisted by Cathryn Garrett, and then used her adrenaline to fire in one
more with 2:30 left in the game. Throughout the first half of the game, Maddy
Ferry stood strong in goal, taking 4 shots.
During the second half of the game, Lydi Cohen-Kaplan took 9 shots on
net. Other notable contributors were Jess Ferris, Savannah Hartigan, and Diane
Churchill, all of whom smoothly moved the ball up the field, and helped
defensively when needed. Overall, the girls demonstrated impressive teamwork,
and communicated throughout the entire match.
Our next game is Friday vs. Waring, at 4pm on Collins Field!
Please come cheer us on if you can.
