2010 Awards

Coach's Award

Earning the coach's award requires dedication, perseverance and “coachability”. You have to be a great athlete, a helpful teammate, a strong leader, and a consistent role model. It helps if you shake the ref's hands after each game or inspire your team by playing your hardest despite having some inescapable form of pneumonia or bronchitis. Scoring 20 of our 99 goals doesn't hurt either. Actually, being elected a captain is a vote in your favor too. But most important is coachability: the attitude and personality that enables you to hear your coaches, to play as they preach and welcome each opportunity to improve. That she is a lively, engaging and poised young woman just makes giving her the coach's award even more rewarding.

Congratulations to our Most Coachable Player, Eliza Woodworth

Most Valuable Player

This year's MVP was chosen by the team. She was chosen for her speed, stick skills and experience. Her lightening speed helped us carry the ball from defense to offense – and sometimes she didn't even cradle. She scored 19 goals for the team and made some of our most beautiful plays happen. She brought her years of experience to each practice and could seriously impress everyone with her aggression on offense or defense. She could take the draw, play a home or disrupt a goalie clear. As a captain, she was a role model on and off the field. Although we'll miss getting to cheer for her on our field, we look forward to seeing her play for union next year.

Congratulations to our MVP, Juliette Larzelere.

Most Improved Player

Our most improved player was also chosen by the team – and this year's pick won by a landslide. Before this spring, she had never played lacrosse. Despite all the rules, fouls and tricks of the game, she never seemed to doubt her ability to 'get it'. She took our instruction, listened to her peers on the field and became an incredibly important part of our line up. She ended the season playing entire games – and we couldn't have competed as well without her. She is tenacious, smart and devoted. She runs fast despite her hurting knees and never once missed a practice. She is one of those rare natural athletes and we're so glad she joined our team!

By unanimous decision, our most improved player is Lucia Ansara.

And, for making our season enjoyable, efficient and easy, we welcome Cindy Spreer as an honorary member of the 2010 Varsity Women's Lacrosse Team
